I have been a practising artist in a variety of media, including illustration, comic art, design, film production and editing, animation, and Web design. I have worked with all kinds of organisations and individuals over the years and have worked in a wide variety of fields. My experience as a practitioner gives me a useful insight into the practical applications of learning and I use this in my tutoring.
I am a skilled, experienced practitioner of art, design, and English, with a Masters and PhD under my belt. I also have several years experience of editing, 2 years of teaching experience at undergraduate level, and 15 years of community arts where I worked with participants of all ages and backgrounds.
My approach is to put the student first, working with them to establish the learning style and approach best suited to them. I use inquiry based learning, where I encourage students to suggest topics they would like to learn, and tie this to the relevant module/subject/curriculum. I also use project based learning, which can aid in cross-disciplinary study and allows students to take their time to explore topics and subjects of interest.
I have a current Enhanced DBS for working with young people as a private tutor – available on request.
I am currently taking on students at ‘A’ level and above, in English and Art & Design (and related subjects, please contact me for more detail).
